PHTG 326 - A Project 1- revision

These are some close ups of my favorite images of my mom, from my PHTG project 1.

Photoshop class project 5

This project was too simply create and HDR image (High dynamic range), which is basically 3 or more different exposures of the same image merged together. I'm a romantic, so I made a romantic image ;)

Photoshop class project 6

This was my second last photoshop project, the project was just to composite a photo. So I put myself in my journal, where I reside most the time anyways.

Photoshop class Final

This is the final project I had for my photoshop class. the image on the left is my professor, and the image the he provided us with and told us to "fix him", so in photoshop I made him into a Native American Chief. I am not sure how politically correct it is to do such a thing, I meant no harm. I really admire Native American culture, and it seemed like a fun place to take the project.

PHTG 326 - A Project 7 Final

The theme for this project was Roots. The title of the piece is "I follow rivers". Passion is my life blood, if I am not doing something that I love I feel purpose-less. Veins, and the blood that runs through them is what literally keeps me physically alive, my passions are what keep me emotionally alive. I follow rivers, as in I follow my passions.

Final Warrior Series

This is my final project for my Advertisement/Communication class. I made some immortal female warriors. I was inspired by the strong women in my life, and my own realization that sometimes the grotesque demon's we all have inside us, and in our lives can actually give us strength and beauty. This piece is also pretty heavy with symbolism, the wings, the apple the staff etc. It's mostly just about raw female strength, the skulls are not meant to be anything scary, I mean that is what is underneath our skin, I wanted to show our bones. This was a collab between Tina Vidak (http://www.ohhocuspocus.blogspot.com/) and myself :)

Advertisement Class

Working on some warrior of the dead type photos for my advertising and communication class.....my prof told me to let my "fine art" side out, and she told me I didn't have to make an advertisement...so I went with this. I don't really know what it is, but I just really wanted to do it.

3.4.11

Advertisement Class

This assignment was to create any image with symbols to fill it with meaning, therefore I won't explain it, but let you interpret it as you will.

27.3.11

Photoshop class

These photos were for a simple photoshop project, basically the images you see here are 4 separate images (of the same subject) lit differently and compostited together. The result is some pretty awesome lighting on the gems.

Design Theory

This is my piece for my current visual and textual Design Theory Assignment. I decided to make a poster about gender discrepancies in the design industry.

PHTG 326 - A Project 7

The theme for this project was "Dying",  another hard topic to do. I had a really hard time coming up with an idea for this one, but luckily while I was procrastinating by watching a french film...I got an idea. The film is called water lilies, it's about three young girls discovering their sexual identities over the course of a summer....mid movie two of the girls are lying in bed and looking a the ceiling, and one says, " I bet the last thing a lot of people see before they die, is a ceiling ".  I never thought about that but I bet it is true, and sort of a really beautiful metaphor for life, do you want the last thing that you see to be a ceiling? Not me. Anyways, so I made a photo/poem based on the idea.

PHTG 326 - A Project 6

The theme for this projects was "Greeting cards", an odd theme to work with I will admit. When I began thinking about what to do for this project I started thinking about how everyone (most everyone) has a useless collection of old greeting cards, from birthdays and christmas' years ago. We don't really want to keep them but we feel bad throwing them out, and not to mention when we buy cards, we don't really want to buy them...we just do because, that's what you do. You get a gift, and you get a card. I decided it would be interesting to find a stranger who has a collection of personal cards that they would like to give me. Thanks to the internet I found one, a nice lady in my neighborhood actually, she gave me at least 40 old christmas cards. Out of those cards I picked a few of the messages written in them.... I found it interesting how much and how little some people write...and made my own card that resembled the feelings I got from reading personal cards addressed to a complete stranger. Which was slightly uncomfortable, secretive, sly, and a bit like walking through a forest with no direction..trying to piece together an identity from bits of greeting card messages. I know that ironically enough this stranger is some sort of artist, or designer...from a few clues in the cards, and a bit of a globe trotter, but not much else.

The image is a scan from one of the cards she gave me, I thought it was a really strange image for a Christmas card. I made an actual card with what is shown above (image in outside, message on inside ), I will put a pic of it up later perhaps.

Advertisement Class

For this project we were challenged to create an advertisement, that was both photo and text based. The tricky part is we had to use the eminent font Helvetica. For those you who don't know, it is probably the most used font in the world, almost every sign you see on the street is in this font. Not to mention many designers believe that is is the best font that has, and ever will be created. So, for my concept I made the "perfect" letter T with tea leaves, and the tagline, searching the globe for the perfect leaves to create the perfect T (as in tea), am I selling tea or helvetica? Who knows.

PHTG 326 - A Project 5

The theme of this project was Sleeping. I found out that my mom and I had recently been having similar problems sleeping. We started to seperately record the times that we woke up in the night, and then we compared them. Strangely enough about 90% of the time we were both awake/having trouble sleeping at the same times. Especially 3am, so I made this photo based on that.

PHTG 326 - A Project 3

The Theme for this assignment was Freezer, I wrote/recorded a poem and took a photo to represent how I think Canadians feel about these long winters, or at least it is how I feel.

PHTG 326 - A Project 2

The theme of this project was Weddings, I decided to take a photo of myself in my mom's wedding dress. I wanted to reflect how I was feeling about love, marriage, and letting go. The title of this piece is Acceptance.

PHTG 326 - A Project 1

In this photo class, we get themes for our projects. They are very open themes, the theme for this project was Driving.  I took photos of my mom while she talked about one of my favorite photos of her and I. It is a photo of her right after she gave birth to me, she is wearing a yellow hospital gown and holding me in her arms. She looks so much like I do now, the strength and love I see in her eyes in that photo just amazes me. I really admire her. I also had my mom take photos of me while I talked about the photo, I thought about drive in a non-literal way, the things that drive us to be great mothers, daughters, people, such as love:
